Motuihe Update 27 June 2019

A reminder of up and coming dates:

Sunday 7th July Volunteer Date:
This volunteer day is currently very full. We would ask our leaders and supervising regulars to confirm if you are available to assist with this large day.  We are still waiting for Fullers to confirm they can accommodate us.

Weeds and Weeding workshop 29th July:
Not sure what these are? They could be in your garden and on Motuihe...

Michael Jenkins  (past Motuihe ranger, and now weeding contractor) will run an evening on Monday 29 July  7 pm to 9 pm at OBC, 7 Tamaki Drive.  This is open to all prospective, new or experienced Motuihe volunteers and to OBC members  Michael will cover how to identify weeds found on the island and elsewhere, and instructions on the best way of eliminating or controlling these weeds.  Motuihe Trust puts a lot of resources into weed control on the island and relies on volunteers both to report weeds and for active weeding groups, so we hope lots of you will come and take advantage of Michael’s expertise.  Please register for this evening with
(Or these?)

Field Workers - Hochstetter Frogs
Experienced field workers required to cut routes, then install rodent bait stations and deploy rat poison. This work will occur in a 1000 acre forested area in the Waitakere Ranges (Auckland). We have been contracted by Auckland Council to carry out this work to protect Hochstetter frogs.

Starting approx. 3rd July 2019 - to an undetermined finishing time. If the candidates are suitable we may have other work in Auckland and Northland after this is completed e.g. other bait station operations, setting out predator traps, weed control work, planting maintenance etc.

- This work is arduous as it is in steep, densely bush clad terrain, so it is imperative that the applicant has some sound experience working in the bush and is confident in that environment.- Good attitude, good fitness, stamina, initiative and motivation
- GPS experience necessary
- If the candidates reside in Northland, they would need to be available to work 5 - 10 day stints (weather dependent) if using our transportation.
- Full drivers licence
- New Zealand Work Permit or Visa
- New Zealand Bank Account
- New Zealand I.R.D. number

Accommodation provided (primarily for candidates not living in Auckland).

Payment is either as a casual employee or as a contractor.

Please contact Clea by email and tell us a little about your suitability and field experience.

Good Wood is predominantly a pest control business run by my partner, Glen and I. The pests we control are exotic weeds, deer, pigs, rabbits, possums, goats, mustelid and rats. We also do native tree planting, work in the kiwi recovery arena and tutor in fencing and pest control.
